Hi, my name's Chris Lawther.
If you've had a look around the rest of this site you'll see a small selection of the design work I do: laying out Gail's books and pattern packs, as well as our own publicity material.
But I also work for other people! Maybe I can help you?
On this web page you'll learn a bit more about the kind of work I do, as well as see some examples ... so you can find out if my skills can be useful in helping you produce your own pattern packs, leaflets, teaching tips, publicity material, logos, booklets ... even books! And there are also details of the Teamwork Craftbook imprint, services and publications - for those interested in having their book ideas come to fruition.
You can e-mail me at thelawthers@ntlworld.com
Craftsworld Series for Traplet Publications
Gail and I were asked by Traplet (publishers of P&Q magazine) to commission, edit and design this series of six craftbooks. As well as quilting books there was a book on rug-making and one on making your own Teddy Bears.

Since earning my BA in Typography and Graphic Communication, I've worked in most areas of graphic design for individuals, commercial companies and charities. I've designed books and booklets, magazines and journals, promotion and publicity, leaflets, logos and ads. I also teach Graphic Design part-time at a local college.
I'm used to working with craftspeople as well as with authors and editors, photographers and printers; whether your ideas are small or large, I can take them through all stages of production. And in my role as a teacher I regularly cast a constructively critical eye over other people's layouts, so am used to acting as consulatant!
My clients have included David & Charles, The Guild of Master Craftsman, Quarto, Traplet, Authentic Media, Paternoster Periodicals, CPAS, Careforce and John Hunt.
Teamwork Craftbooks
In 1998 Gail and I decided to self-publish her book Stained Glass Patchwork ourselves, rather than use a mainstream publisher. Between us we were experienced in writing, editing, designing and organising printing - for other companies - so we decided to take the risk of producing our own, 80 page volume. Our first print run sold out within 9 months and we reprinted twice ... so were happy we'd gone ahead! Since then we've printed three more books by Gail, under our imprint (see her books) but have also provided a service for a number of other quilters wanting to produce their own books.
If you're thinking about publishing your own book craft book, we can offer you a complete professional design, editorial and printing service at competitive rates.
